Shanda and Kendall's wedding at Spruce Meadows and Meadow Muse Pavillion in Calgary was a long time coming - like 9 years long time. These two met as little babies in school and have been head over heels ever since. They were one of the first couples I booked for 2018 and ever since their engagement session at Lake Minnewanka last year, I've been dying waiting for this day to come. One thing I learned from this day is that weddings will not always go smoothly, things will go wrong. For me, it was our ceremony backdrop falling over due to wind and all my bridesmaids getting sunburnt during portraits. For Shanda and Kendall, it was having to move their outdoor ceremony indoors due to unusual forecasts for snow in September, and that Shanda ended up getting sick towards the end of the night and spent most of her reception outside throwing up.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, it was a beautiful day. While Shanda was sick, I watched Kendall place her head in his lap and start stroking her her hair and back. I thought to myself, "now that's marriage." Sticking with each other, through the good and the bad. Not only that, but throughout the day, their bridal party was amazingly supportive and always checking in with how they were doing.
I hope Shanda and Kendall can look back at those moments and remember that even though the day may not have gone as planned, they and the people closest to them were there for each other when it was needed most.
